Hypothetical Example: Using CSW% to Analyze an MLB Matchup
Consider a hypothetical matchup between Pitcher A and Pitcher B.
Pitcher A has a season CSW% of 31%. Over his last five starts, that number has increased to approximately 33%. His strikeout percentage has also increased, and his slider has generated an unusually high number of whiffs.
Pitcher B has a season CSW% of 27%. His recent number has fallen closer to 25%, while his strikeout percentage has declined.
At first glance, Pitcher A appears to have the advantage.
But the analysis should not stop there.
