Positive closing line value means you received a better betting price than the market's closing price. CLV is commonly used to evaluate betting decisions over time, but beating the closing line does not guarantee that an individual wager will win.

How to Use the Closing Line Value (CLV) Calculator

The Closing Line Value Calculator helps you compare the odds you received when placing a bet with the market’s final closing odds to see whether you beat the closing line.

Inputs

  • Odds Format – Choose whether you want to enter your odds in American or Decimal format.
  • Your Bet Odds – Enter the odds you received when you originally placed the wager. Example: -110.
  • Closing Odds – Enter the final odds available near game time for the same bet. Example: -130.

Outputs

  • Your Implied Probability – Shows the implied probability of the odds you received when placing your bet.
  • Closing Implied Probability – Shows the implied probability of the market’s closing odds.
  • Closing Line Value – Measures the difference between the price you received and the closing price. Positive CLV means you received the better price.
  • Probability Difference – Shows how many percentage points the implied probability moved between your bet and the closing line.
  • Did You Beat the Closing Line? – Quickly tells you whether your original betting price was better than the closing price.
  • Your Decimal Odds vs. Close – Displays both prices in decimal format for an easy side-by-side comparison.

Example: If you place a bet at -110 and the same side closes at -130, the calculator will show approximately +7.91% CLV. You received the better price and therefore beat the closing line.

Beating the closing line does not mean an individual bet will win. CLV is more useful for evaluating the quality of your betting prices and decisions over a larger sample of wagers.
